Hello Pezz, Today's Report:

Purchased Beijing Capital Land finance.yahoo.com at HKD 1.67/share, HKD 0.01 over the IPO price of 1.66. I figure it is good for:

(a) Inflation hedge
(b) Olympic play
(c) RMB revaluation insurance
(d) IPO gamble
(e) Economic growth wager
(f) Emerging market bet
(g) Maybe even an investment :0)

Shanghai anecdote Time:
A beautifully fitted out (modern appliances, marble, hard wood, under floor heating, large balconies) high floor Shanghai apartment of 1,800 sqft goes for USD 220,000 all-in. Rents for USD 1,200-1,500. Common facilities include health club, pool and underground garage.

A wonderfully cooked Japanese cod fish lunch set, including rice, soap, steamed egg, salad, and one drink served in fancy ambiance goes for USD 7.

Beautiful and tri-lingual (Chinese, Japanese, English) secretary commands a monthly compensation of USD 500 + 30% (by 13 months)

Dual-language capable accountants going for USD 600 + 30% per month (by 13 months).

Network-ready computer + flat screen going for USD 500 per set, and furniture going for USD 200 per station.

Some US/Mexican/HK folks are setting business with USD 150k capitalization to provide backroom accounting services to multinational companies in China and US companies' Japan-based operations, throwing USD 90k compensation accountants out of work.

Awesome storm coming out of Shanghai.

Shanghai will ban construction and bicycles from city center starting 2008, tweaking the infrastructure for the 2010 World Expo coming out party.

Chugs, Jay

Hello Pezz, This Afternoon's Report:
I have returned to HK in good shape. I dropped off luggage at home and headed straight for the beach. Now I am tired from exercise and am looking forward to dinner, stock watch, and eventual sleep.

While I was doing laps, I thought about The Way Events Might Be, and while walking home, called to transfer majority of borrowed idle Yen cash to the Canadian frontier where they might get some exercise and extract some loot.

The Sake2Bottles do not need their money, except for dissipation and evaporation, the J6Ps can hardly afford any more money from Japan, Hans4Pitchers never needed money from elsewhere, and so, I was either going to move the Yen loot to China via Hong Kong, or to Canada. For the moment, Canada it shall be, until the Canucks no longer deserve it.

Hello Pezz, Tonight's Report:

I got rid of my residual Comcast and Intel positions at 20-25% profit (thank goodness I am a USD-denominated investor). These were left over from a time long ago in a space far away.

Feels good.

Chugs, Jay

Hello Pezz, <<Well I see ya got your recommendations in.. Now I suppose that a year from now ya will gently (or not so gently) remind me of this post>> ...

Perhaps not as late as a year from now;0)

See this ... Message 19050537 (dateline June 18th)

BTW, did I forget to remind you within the last 5 posts that we must consider ...

At some point, the fear of no oil from Iraq, less oil from Iran (due either to UN-sanctioned, or US-unilateral embargo), and a restive Saudi Arabia may panic the market already edgy about energy supply/pricing, especially as the Venezuelan situation is as it was, ready to deteriorate at no moment’s notice.
