The children of immigrants are expected to absorb the language and culture of their new country so that ethnic and national origins will be irrelevant by the second generation.

Of course immigrants are expected to understand the language of the country they now choose to live in. What is so strange about THAT?

And pray tell how learning a language makes "national origins irrelevant by the second generation"??? Oh wait. You probably can't speak another language to save your life, right? :-) That would explain your horror at being taught another language...

It believes that affirmative action programs such as those in the United States are forms of "positive discrimination" that reinforce invidious distinctions."

I happen to agree. I would hate to be refused entry to a university, for example, while a black girl is accepted because... why, really? Because her ancestors were tortured and used as slaves by your ancestors?

You, along with some of your louder and more obnoxious brethren on SI, suffer from the delusion that whatever you see in the US is right, not only for Americans but for everyone else on earth. Consider the possibility that other peoples might have other ways. And are happy with them.
