As to Hawaii and Alaska, they each asked to become a state. Hardly an act of empire.

I have no idea what you consider our "satellite states." But I doubt any of those you might have in mind would accept in any way such a description, except perhaps Puerto Rico.

Your use of the word empire is not any use I suspect you will find in the dictionary. Perhaps you choose to be Carroll's Humpty Dumpty, but I'm not interested in going there.
