Our auto industry is doing fine, thank you
(I work in it...)There is an overall overcapacity
problem in North America though - because we can produce
more cars that can be sold here..

US consumers have benefited from Japanese products, which
have a higher quality, and push the Big Three to improve. Also, many US auto suppliers sell to companies like Toyota
and Daimler Chrysler, so we all benefit...just fyi..

Oh c'mon now Christopher, even an ol' "crusty" conservative right winger such as yourself must recognize we are truly an "empire", regardless of how we arrived at this destination.... And yes, Japan is truly "in our pocket", make no mistake about that fact. As a "Japanophile" for over 16 years now, with contacts in Japan as well as access to television directly from what I call now "The Land of the Setting Sun", I can assure you the Japanese are truly passive about following the leadership of their American "masters".
I sincerely wish this were not the case, because I hate to see a formerly proud nation grovel at our feet, but facts are facts.
