nice post. Any idea how to invest for the long haul with these themes? Certainly alternative forms of energy will one day shine...

Yes, and there were many fine whale oil companies to invest in back when it became apparent to some very smart fellows that there would never be enough whale oil in the world to support the world's population. (there is still one company left in existence) The world uses oil because it is cheap, when it is no longer cheap we will use something else. Right now the only thing keeping us from using alternatives is the fact that in constant dollars oil is cheaper than its ever been in most people's lifetimes!
