For some one who did not want to this war in the first place and who suspected from the get go that Mr. Bush was lying about WMD, the current situation is what I feared most might happen. It could well turn into a quagmire for our soldiers and a bottomless money pit for the US Treasury. In spite of your good news, its anecdotal at best and reflects only in part of what is happening in Iraq at the current time. YES, it appears that IF we want to do this job RIGHT we are gonna be in there a long time, probably 3-5 years. How long have we been in Bosnia now? Frankly, IF SUCCESSFUL I think there is far more POTENTIAL benefits in a Westernized Democracy in the Middle East then screwing around in Bosnia etc. In any event, we wont be out of Iraq before the 2004 elections and the American Public will have their opportunity to VOTE as to whether they feel Bush did the right thing or not. At this point I think he did, in fact, while this probably wont happen and would probably be unpopular, I think we need to INCREASE or forces their to INSURE security. Otherwise we better get a RELIABLE Iraqi security force trained PDQ to cut down on our casualties. JDN
