Saddam's regime dropped chemical bombs on Halabja in Northern Iraq in 1988. The UN and other international organisations confirmed that more than 5000 civilians were killed in few hours. Eye witness accounts, photos and video footage show the horrifying facts of the most heinous crime in modern time.

General Ali Hassan al-Majid, a cousin of Saddam, led the terror campaign against Kurds in 1988. Iraqi jets sprayed the city for five hours with mustard gas and the nerve agents Tabun, Sarin and VX.

Al-Majid, also known as "Chemical Ali" is reported to have been killed by British forces in the recent war against Saddam's regime.

In 1991, Al-Majid was giiven the task of punishing Shia Muslim for a revolt that erupted after US President George Bush Sr. urged Kurds in the north and Shias in the south to support his invasion of Iraq.

General Wafiq Al Samarae the former director of the Iraqi Intelligence Service admitted in his book (Eastern Gate Ruins) that light chemical weapons were used against Shia Muslims in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala to crush the popular uprising.

A large number of Shias took sanctuary in the Marshes of Southern Iraq. In 1993, Saddam again unleashed his chemical weapons against the Marsh Arabs in orders to crush the resistance forces.
