No the environmentalists do a fair amount of the research as well. Both have an interest in skewing the figures lower.

neither oil companies nor environmentalists are the ones doing the research. oil companies have a vested interest in perpetuating the myth that they are not a sunset industry, and environmentalists live in the lala-land of half-baked truths (though not alone, apparently). very few environmentalists know what's going on.

so keep on guessing about who does the research.

you know, the ironic thing is, you would probably be quite interested in this research if you'd only read it instead of brushing it aside with preconceived notions.

looked at me with total disgust and said, "No. People want big cars, SUVs, the bigger the better and they want luxury. They don't want to be rolling down the highway in some little compact car anymore

true. the car cos like to make SUVs because that's where all their profit is (literally, in some cases). so it's important for them to perpetuate the myth of endless oil.
