"I always learned much more paying attention to who hurls the insults - the recipients have nothing to do with the process" The recipients have plenty to do with the process. They can counter the accusations with reason, or they can admit to the legitimacy of the criticism. The fact that a criticism may be unkindly phrased does not vitiate the accuracy of the charge.

I agree with you that it advances nothing to call people names, and it does tell you certain things about the person hurling the names. That said, I wouldn't even want to use the word trash about people who call names (because it is the nose of the camel). NO people are trash. Some IDEAS seem like trash (subjectively, of course) but confusing ideas with people- senseless. Because we are such emotional creatures it is all too easy to hate people because you hate their ideas- but we must resist that (imo). If we can learn to resist that, we will be a more peaceful species.

Norwegian jokes on oil and cod (that thing which disappeared many years ago from the USA side of the Atlantic) are much funnier these days. Btw, Finland has more reindeers than Norway, and less problems with funny parties with sexual hangups, must be that habit of going to the sauna and not to the church. Additionally our reindeer are less radioactive and in general, statistically smarter, the overwhelming majority of the reindeer median always return after a free trip across those borders.
