The sad thing is that the peoples of the earth can have food, shelter, medical care and legal representation but their rulers - or struggles between would-be rulers - make it impossible. Why are Puerto Ricans so much better off than Cubans? Why were West Germans so much better off than East Germans? Come on, you know the answer. Capitalism, democracy, free markets, free trade, free exchange of ideas. Freedom works. The alternatives limp along, if honestly tried, and collapse if the participants don't have their hearts in it.
