CB, <<"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," it seemed to me that the aristocratic speakers spoke differently than the servants.>> The important folks were played by overseas Chinese actors/actresses (except the young sword-fighting girl Zhang Yi-Mou who fought the older lady Michelle Yeh) and they spoke Mandarin with a bad southern accent, whereas the extras were mainlanders, speaking a mandarin with a variety of regional accents. Zhang Yi-mou spoke Mandarin without any accent.
