Kastel, it is just that the masc/fem forms give you too many variants in prepositions (ex: je vais au Japon/ je vais en France) while the function is the same... Why two forms? and why assign a gender to a neutral noun?

(by the way, I am a native French speaker, just that teaching it is a nightmare, especially to people who don`t have such distinction in their languages singular/plural, fem/masc, countable, non-count and partitive etc...)
