Re: But the "technical difference" is that in the case of the Liberty, Israeli leaders immediately stepped forward to apologize voiciferously and provide compensation.

LOL... C'mon, Ron! Israeli leaders had nothing to "vociferously apologize" about since they bombed the USS Liberty IN CAHOOTS with the Johnson administration and Prez Johnson himself!! Indeed, President Johnson deliberately SACRIFICED the USS Liberty in order to provide the US with a pretext to declare war on Egypt... Remember that, at the time, Egypt got military supply and assistance from the Soviet Union and vowed support to the Palestinians (Nasserism) and the UAR (United Arab republic,...) If things turned sour for Israel then the US administration deemed it necessary for the US to jump in. However, only a casus belli with an Arab belligerent (Egypt) could be used to sway US opinion.... Bamford hints at such a devious ploy in his monograph on the NSA... there's one scathing sentence about Johnson "not giving a hoot about" the Liberty's crew....

Footnote re: the USS Liberty.

Here's the scathing comment I was alluding to:

[Rear Admiral] Geis told him that the first rescue flight had been cancelled on direct orders from Secretary McNamara, who ordered a 90 minute delay before further flights. When the second flight took off at 1630, Geis notified McNamara, who again ordered the recall of the flight. Any officer who doubts the wisdom of an order has the prerogative to go over the head of the officer giving the order, and in this case the only officer superior to McNamara was President Johnson. LBJ came on the phone, and told Geis "I don't care if the ship sinks and every man on board drowns; we are not going to fight against our allies (Israel)."

Geis made Lewis promise not to tell about this conversation as long as he, Geis, was alive. After Geis's death, Lewis revealed this.

This is an astounding and shocking statement by President Johnson. The accuracy of Tully's account and of Geis's account, as related by Lewis, are questions to be explored at greater length in the next section of this history.

Here's the updated version, Ron:

"I don't care if the hijacked planes crash and every passenger on board dies; we are not going to fight against our allies (Russia, Israel)."

But the "technical difference" is that in the case of the Liberty, Israeli leaders immediately stepped forward to apologize voiciferously and provide compensation.

Wow, another lie! Actually, Israel lied about the assault. Then, it was revealed that there was physical evidence of their crime. Israel recanted somewhat, when caught red-handed. Furthermore, as you WELL KNOW, many Israeli supporters continue to lie about the Liberty.

Incidentally, how is this "technically different" from the German reaction to the Nazi Holocaust? Last time I checked, Germany had apologized and paid compensation.

Lying, again?

Hawkmoon,

Re: But the "technical difference" is that in the case of the Liberty, Israeli leaders immediately stepped forward to apologize voiciferously and provide compensation.

That simply is not true. Considering how much you know about the subject matter, I can't conclude that you are ignorant of the fact that Israel was in deep denial mode for a very long time.

You are lying. You are discrediting yourself.
