Now yes, he was trained in jet-flying, but look at his shameful record, refusing the drug test, running out on duty, disappearing for 13 months, deserting and going AWOL. Then not even being able to fly a Cessna 3 years later proving he never really learned how to fly solo without an instructor by his side. Contrast to that Kerry (still an aerobatics expert pilot) who actually served on an air-craft carrier, took three wounds and killed enemy in Nam, winning the Silver Star, etc. No comparison. But you wont see Kerry telling us the war is over as troops are still dying on a daily basis. He has more respect for the troops than to use them for PR stunts. He also wouldn't be cutting their medical benefits and kids' education the way Bush is doing. I agree back in the 70's the war was very unpopular, even amongst Republicans and few people wanted to go anywhere near Vietnam. That's another point, the right-wing cutting down Kerry for protesting the war after he got back, when by then only real diehards were convinced the war was worth fighting. Talk about no exit plan. Nicon was re-elected only after he promised to end the war. So even the GOP wanted us out, at least most of them. We never should have escalated that war in the first place. It was a huge mistake and was based on the Gulf Of Tonkin lie. Gulf Of Tonkin = WMD's imminent threat. Same deal. A phony excuse to escalate and put hundred of thousands of troops into battle. Partly to put a lot of money into war lobbyists' clients pockets. Halliburton and Bectel love wars. That's their bread and butter. Should have just let the Green Berets and local forces fight back guerilla style, with air cover of course. When we were doing that in 1967 we were winning. We only started losing when we moved the USA to South Vietnam and became huge targets like we are now in Iraq. That's smart warfare versus indsutrial corporate warfare. I was for taking out Saddam with a surgical hit team all along. Why did we have to invade the place? And by ourselves without the UN supporting us? Really piss-poor plan.
