I tend to agree with you that it could be a really close race next year. There are many issues at stake important to everyone. The most important, IMO, is how involved we should be worldwide; with the economy a close second. Everything else is peripheral.

Agreed. A strong campaign that still takes the moral high ground, and tells the truth, while strongly responding to the filth that is being spread.

But Bush is being deviously clever in his use of the right wing media. He will not condone, but will not come out and denounce their lies (the McCarthy/Coulterism, the 'anti-American left', etc). FOX and Savage et al are the dirty attack dogs, while Bush stands back and lets them do their work.

It will be difficult to fight both battles without a similar propaganda machine that has no shame. The mainstream media is too cowed to bring out all the facts. It will be a tough fight.

To paraphrase Paul Begala: Please, PLEASE, run a loudmouth hate-filled Marxist/Leninist anti-American campaign in 2004, PLEASE!

The Wellstone "funeral" was the last nail in the Democrats' coffin in 2002. Make EVERY race a Wellstone "funeral" redux!...
