clappers-

Any of you Hippie folks know anything about Transcendental Meditation?

i know some but if i tell it i'll sound stupid after
<edit - name change> TLComiskey explains things in depth...

so here's my story. and i'm sticking to it.

horse walks into a bar.

bartender says, "sooo, why the long face?"

horse says, "i've got a rotten tooth and i need it pulled."

bartender says, "sit in that chair over there and i'll
send dr19 right over to pull it for you. meanwhile, can
i get you a double shot of absinthe to kill the pain?"

horse says, "no thanks. i prefer to transcend dental
medication."

that's all i have at this time.
reporting for NNBM news, this is elpolvo...

Clap...I 'practiced' TM for 3-4 years...
have no regrets..
But Now I do Vipasana..( Buddhist Mindfullness)..
See Books by Jack Kornfield...( A Path with Heart)...or Joseph Goldstein.....(The Experience of Insight)
I had the Great fortune of having a Teacher who had 'sat' for over 30 years to guide me..
Its a very easy technique...but..
The 'Thinking mind' is an unruly servant........
In essence...its cultivating 'Stillness'.......
something that has meaning..once you have had it.....
Check out the Insight Meditation Society

The Insight Meditation Society was founded in 1975 as a nonprofit organization to provide an environment conducive to the practice of vipassana (insight) and metta (lovingkindness) meditation, and to preserve the essential Buddhist teachings of liberation. IMS now operates two retreat facilities – the Retreat Center and the Forest Refuge, which are set on 160 secluded wooded acres in the quiet country of central Massachusetts.

The Retreat Center, which commenced a program of silent courses in 1976, offers a full yearly schedule of meditation retreats lasting in duration from a weekend to three months. Most retreats are 7-9 days long. A group of senior teachers provide regular and ongoing guidance and direction as well as teaching a number of courses each year themselves. In addition, recognized insight meditation teachers from all over the world come to offer teachings.

The Forest Refuge: On May 12, 2003, this new center officially opened for experienced meditators, providing a secluded environment for long-term, self-sustaining practice. In general, there is no fixed retreat schedule and practitioners may begin their practice whenever an opening is available.

Namaste Bro....

pm me if you need more..
Its a Long Path...but well worth the effort
Tim

TL Comiskey is the dude to talk to about meditation.

Also, I have mention Thich Nhat Hanh to you before, I think he is great. His books are wonderful.

I dont know TM, but the smartest man i ever knew thought the world of it....he was one of the worlds pioneering transplant surgeons.
As for meditation, all the differences in schools and styles matter little....find a teacher you trust and stick with it. As the Japanese say, "Even sitting on a rock, three years".
Grab "Zen Mind, Beginners MInd" if you have not yet read it. Read it once or 1000 times it still speaks to the deepest place we can touch with words.
The "Power of Now" is a 'recent' good read or listen. His insight resonates quite nicely.

Clap,

I know zilch about TM.
BUT, when I need a release and a zap back to reality;

I run.
I run like hell.
I run til I can't feel my fingertips or toes.
And when I feel like I can't go any more I run a little harder.
It is very refreshing and it keeps you in contact with what you can overcome in life.
The few weeks when "I'm too busy" and I don't get to run, I'm a miserable bastard,
so go figgur; too busy is too stupid.
Running clears the head as well as burning a cartload of calories (you've got to do it for a minimum of a half hour a clip to make it worthwhile; every minute beyond 30 is almost white hot fuel consumption.)
2-3 times a week makes all the difference in the world.

FWIW, find the right path and you get to see tons of cute chicks young and old....
C'mon I may be married (happily thank you)but I ain't dead, Ria would agree.

Tim
