This year, you're either for Bush or against him. No more Nader protest votes. They only help Bush. Nominating Dean would play right into Karl Rove's hands. Last weekend he was quoted as celebrating the upsurge in Dean's fundraising and support. Chris Matthews joked the other day to a GOP guest "Why don't you just raise money for Howard Dean?" Unfortunately, while Dean is a forceful candidate rousoing up the anti-war base, he's also big trouble for the Dems if he ever gets close to being nominated. According to the moveon poll, 76% (mostly Dean supporters) enthusiastically support Kerry too. Their views are not that different. But Kerry has the military combat hero status and a slightly more centrist stature which with Bob Graham (to get Florida) gives us the best and perhaps only chance of beating Bush. Kerry can actually take away Bush's military voters. Dean would have the opposite effect.
