Skeet, though you obviously aren't aware of it, the fact is that most, if not all, state constitutions require a balanced budget.

Besides, balancing Vermont's budget in the 1990s was no difficult task.

Dean is not some "fiscal conservative/social liberal." He is a tax and spend, income redistributing, pander to every left-wing cause, neo-McGovernite. He's good at energizing the left just as McGovern was, so he may get the nomination, but he has no chance of winning the general election.

In other words, he's the best thing to happen to George W. Bush since his dad became President. ;-)

all you have to do to balance the budget in Vermont is to cut the snow plowing budget by 2% or reduce the no of families on public assisstance from 22% to 21.7%

Not sure which Dean did. But he's no hero to me.
Much of Vermont is a sad, backwater place.
