<<<The other encouraging thing is, with 150,000 troops permanently committed to the two Tar Babies of Iraq and Afghanistan, and without the draft, there is no possibility of any further adventures.>>
You underate our capabilities.
I seem to count 12 aircraft carriers and right around 55 submarines that are currently under-employed.

Parking half of these off the N Korean coast would surely result in "adventures" for all concerned.

No, I am truly optimistic, at this point.

The War Party has pushed things to their limit, used all their resources, committed themselves fully, and it isn't working. Now, when things look the worst for peace, now is the hopeful moment, when the nation starts to say, "We need to try something different".

I truly believe we can win the War. It is a War On Terror, a Clash of Civilizations. That War is being waged against violent religious fundamentalists. Savages who worship a savage God, a God of blood and sacrifice. God whispered in the ear of Bin Laden, and told him to attack the Great Satan (killing thousands of innocents). God whispers in the ear of President Bush, telling him which governments to overthrow (killing thousands of innocents in the process). Different Gods, same message. Or maybe the same God, using different names.

Now is the turning point, where the pendulum starts to swing back, back to the Enlightenment, back to Civilization, back to sanity, backing away from Death and the Gods of Death.
