Los Angeles just had the first first stage smog alert in FIVE YEARS I hate to tell you this, but if you removed every SUV from the L.A. basin, you'd still have smog. It's an unavoidable result of local geography and climate conditions. It's also a fact that SUV's and cars are both 98 to 99 percent cleaner than in pre emission days. I lived in L.A. in the late 70's and early 80's and the air quality now is considerably improved from that time.
