Hi MQ,
WiMAX uses the first basic PHYsical Layer technology
to be optimized entirely for the hostile outdoor environment. For example it uses 256 orthoginal sub-carriers
rather than the 64 (for 802.11a, b , g,).

Technologies such as 11a can be cranked up to work in the
outdoor environment, but at a increased data packet error
ratio of about 1 in every 12 data packets.

It is the Parasol , who's ribs interconnect those public
and private hotspots to the big fibre pipes, and the
wireless replacement for DSL and Cable-Modem.

Best to ya,
Mardy.
