I did load a program that uses dual pane explorer features but I uninstalled it so that may have to do with the problem

Sounds like a perfect time to try a system restore

best of luck with it. Can't help you any further, other then say maybe consider using a image backup of your system files. That way when any B/S happens (and there seems to an infinite number of ways for that to happen), you can just clear everything out with a fresh version of your last backup..

You can wipe more often and have that fresh, clean feeling
