KT,

I've seen similar analysis of the neo-cons etc... elsewhere. I'm not familiar with some of the people mentioned either. I just like Ron Paul because he's always giving Greenjeans a hard time. :-)

Strauss was a European emigre professor of political science who wrote nearly impenetrable books like Studies in Platonic Political Philosophy- well, at least to me that one is impenetrable.

Strauss appears to have believed that there are "secret meanings" to famous political writings which aren't apparent to the casual reader. I didn't get the secret Leo Strauss Decoder Ring in my Cracker Jacks box, so I dunno if this is true or not.

Anyway, Strauss left some influential political activists in his wake. Harry Jaffa at Claremont is rumored to be the keeper of the secret knowledge- and Jaffa and Claremont have produced some significant players in the Republican Party.

Paul Gottfried has written extensively on Strauss and his followers. Dig around in Gottfried's archive at Lew Rockwell's website and you'll find some interesting reading.

And there's also some critiques of Straussian thought by David Gordon:
