Energy efficiency too expensive for China ? no....

Many of the energy efficent appliance & air conditoners are being built in China and Brazil and Korea right now.

The vehicle stuff is heavily in R&D currently.

There have been studies that show that outside of cars and heated swimming pools, the US life style consumes about the same energy as a rural peasant - only the peasant burns wood (inefficently) vs. central heating in a well insulated house, electric lights, etc.

So outside of the vehicle question, living standard in China could rise enormously in XX years. Look at Korea and Taiwan and Singapore as example that this is possible.
China doesn't have the security problems of Korea and Taiwan, has more resources, and a fantastic advantage in overseas Chinese population which will help build China.

As for the technology transfer at reasonalbe cost - don't expect deals like the Maglev train ;-). Many companies want to build plants in China and sell to the world and and internal markets. That means the technology ends up in China.

China also has enough smart people to develop their own intellectual property.

The UN stuff is just more elitist (although the UN are wanna-be elitists) and racist crap, from the same folks that brought us the Kyotot protocol and want to outlaw herbal medicine and natural food and personal firearms and freedom of speech and the page three girls and God knows what else.

It is in the interest of the United States, most of Asia (except maybe North Korea), Austrailia, Canada and most multinational corporations that China gets rich.

I would think that the government of China would be capable of setting policies with help from the UN.

You might want to save a hard copy of this for your grandchildren - it will be even more ammusing then.

On a more serious note, believing this stuff could cause one to miss a significant investment opportunities.
