LBJ - our previous 'Texas President', dramatically expanded BOTH social AND military spending (& thus the size of the government bureaucracy) without putting the spending on a firm footing. Actions ignited the later inflation of the '70s. Engaged in an 'endless war' not much in America's interest.

Its true that both LBJ and Bush's administrations led to increased social spending but at least LBJ's social programs were in this country. ;~)
