Have you considered the possibility those WMDs were not there during all the pre-war hype?

I bet a lot of time, effort and planning went into hiding them... In other words, it will take the same to find them.

<<However, why can't we find them?>>

Does anyone realize that chem and bio weapons in a quantity large enough to send the world to war against the possessor can fit into the back of 2 or 3 SUV's? Dumped in a river or dry lake by 2 guys working half-a-shift, and disappear? Or shipped to Syria in a few car trunks?

Our left wing media has conditioned us to expect massive "rockets" with "WMD" painted on 3 sides, like some kind of 60's-era Soviet ICBM arsenal. These are litres of white and beige powders, clear liquids, or small tanks of gas that can be carried on a peasant's back.

By the same token, dump "yellow cake" uraniun ore into a desert the size of California, spread a little sand and camel shit over it, and it may not be found for centuries.

Saddam Hussein had a decade to cooperate and prove to inspectors that he was out of the mass-killing business. Instead, like the maniac he was, he pumped world terrorism and mouthed off to an America he thought was weak after the Clinton disaster. He has paid for it with his life, and the war of world Islam against the West goes badly for them-for now.

As a people, we owe a lot to the young heros who took out Saddam/AlQuaeda for us. We must now commit to OUR obligation to them, and prevent a Kerry or Dean from acquiring power, and stabbing them in the back...

sandeep,

Re: I am totally with the analysis that there must have been WMDs. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain Saddam's behavior.

I find myself in the other camp. As Groucho Marx said, "who you gonna believe? Me, or your own eyes?"

IMO, we will never find WMDs. David Kay, the rabid cheerleader for invasion from last fall's TV talk shows, has carte blanche to find WMDs in Iraq. He was the guest on a long segment on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw on Wednesday. They were in Baghdad, in a room stuffed full of cardboard file boxes which Kay was pointing out to be a puzzle palace of hints about a "weapon's program". Kay knows that he and all the other war promoters were lying about the WMDs. Now they are being smarmy and disingenuous. Trying to posit that there's a "program" and that this is good enough to cover up the fact that they can't and won't find any WMDs worthy of the hype.

So, how to explain Saddam's behavior? Why that's simple. He was acting exactly like Bush and Bliar. He was lying about his potential threat to forces inside his country that posed a threat to his illegitimate regime. Lying to the Kurds and the Shias about the possibility of gassing them was just good politics. It keep his enemies off guard. Bush and Bliar both play this game to a tee. What is the real difference between Hussein threatening his people over WMDs and Bush doing the same? No difference whatsoever. Both attempted, and Bush succeeded, in controlling the minds of the naive and credulous populations within their borders, and justified heinous crimes against their societies.
