But the recall provision should be exercised only if there is genuine malfeasance.
I consider that a questionable assertion. I consider the use of recall to remove a venal governor who gained office by lying to be perfectly legitimate. The purpose of recall is both to remove criminal and corrupt officials who are of the majority party in the legislature AND to correct mistakes made by voters in the last election because those officials withheld and distorted material facts.

But if he were thrown out of office early just because he's a liar and an incompetent, where would we stop?
We stop with malfeasance, corruption, and corrupting the electoral process.

How many other governors would be looking over their shoulders?
Maybe more should.

If the recall vote goes forward, it will accelerate our dangerous drift toward all politics all the time.
Aren't we already there? Does anyone believe either Davis or Clinton did anything without weighing political consequences?

The rest I agree with. Most likely, nothing could be worse for the state Dems than Davis in office in '06.

OTOH, he has been written off and risen from the dead before. The danger is he may do it again by '06.
