As in the link I posted.I think most of that is wishful thinking and fanciful myth-making Freemasonry uses an old method of teaching - through examples. Hence, it makes use of myriad stories, including the one about the architect of Solomon's Temple (Hiram Abif). It does NOT claim that the guy was a Freemason. It DOES say he was a MASON (As in, someone who builds stuff) What I have said, if you recall, was that masons' lodges, up until 600-700 years ago, were full of guys cutting stones and building walls. They did not have a dominant philosophical side, they were professional guilds. This can be verified through various sources - they talk of "operative" (i.e. real builders) vs today's "speculative" masons, and how lodges used to be all "operative" at one point not that long ago. Now, why are we talking about this? Because I made a simple comment in relation to Templar Knights, and your little friend started with the petty attacks. I haven't seen references to goddess worship in their books, but there is overlap with these esoteric societies, and there are groups who are seeking a revival... The overlap is in the initiation, references to alchemy, etc which is normal. As for "groups seeking a revival" - Can you be more specific? With references?Foucault's Pendulum was excellent! It was brilliant :-) Foucault's Pendulum raised more questions than it answered I doubt Eco meant to answer questions with Foucault's Pendulum. He constructs a consistent story from bits and pieces of known stuff. Then he erases it all in the end, as it turns out the piece of paper on which they had built their story turns out to be a shopping list. I took it to mean he did not want his version of history to be taken seriously. We are posting on a public thread, the conversation is wide open Yes, and it would be great to have other contributors to the subject. Someone who has a bit of knowledge on the issue, who has an interest in actually discussing it rather than some twisted ego satisfaction through attacking people he doesn't know? That would actually be nice. Needless to say, some persons who seem to feel they are protecting you by making fools of themselves do not fit that description.
