No Bill, Iraq and Vietnam ARE similar in several ways. They were both started using deception and exaggerations by the President. They were both waged against an enemy who would probably never hurt is directly. They both became quagmires with no exit strategy and no UN help. They also both had local guerilla wars fragging and booby-trapping our troops. How can you say there are no similarities?

Iraq is not as bad as Vietnam - yet. But what if Bush were to also invade neighbors Syria and Iran and we had to occupy that whole plane with 400,0000 troops? Bushies are rattling sabers at Iran and Syria now. Maybe in his second term he would something like this, and re-institute the draft. Then the Middle East could turn out to be WORSE than Vietnam. Much worse.

What can we do to avoid this? Elect a new president in 2004. Someone tough but not extreme, hardline, divisive and impulsive.

Bill, RE: "Iraq and Vietnam are similar in that each is a war (armed conflict). Nothing else about them is similar."

That's clearly an overstated and empty opinion. But hey, if you say it often and loudly enough, maybe it will be true.
