Sig, Without buying into the arguments of the left, the capture of saddam and the discovery of at least some wmds, would enable the US to do the grand reconciliation with europa/un and perhaps turn over some of the peacemaking efforts to them. 7 billion per month is alot to spend and the US military is overstretched and probably needed at least in deterrent mode for nk, syria, and iran. US PNAC boys need action or so some will say. I would say the deterrent effect of US action is iraq will be enhanced if the US military availablity increases. We can do that by upping the size of our military or giving a major portion of the peacekeeping role to eu, nato and the UN. I would be interested in your thoughts on this. mike
