SEBL isn't the only company propping earning. PSFT will show a very poor quarter also. All that the PSFT shareholder can hope for is that their board decides to take advantage of Larry. I'm sure that what they would like to do is force Larry to pay even more for a company that is not remotely worth 16 dollars a share, even considering present market conditions. ORCL's price is not down because people think that dim Larry will up the offer price but because he is paying too much already. Watch the price of ORCL drop if Larry extends his offer past next Q reporting date for PSFT.

Steve Jobs could've been incented many other, and equally valuable, ways.

How? I don't think giving him a piece of the company upfront in 1995 would have made sense, because after all he sold his portion of the company once before. And he had to prove himself anyway, nobody knew if he would do good.
