Guys like Hersh and Jacob(see his critique of Pollack) blame the US first all the time about everything.

Let's go slow here, Mike. Jacob can speak for himself here but my impression of his posts is hardly that. He is critical of the Bush administration--not an unusual matter for a US citizen to be critical of a sitting administration--I seem to recall a rather goodly amount of that during the Clinton administration. But that's quite different from being critical of "the US all the time about everything."

As for Hersh, he is an investigative reporter. That's his job, even his calling. He uncovers things that administrations wish to keep covered. I consider that a highly praiseworthy function.

In this case, his sources within the CIA which are many and very credible, argue that the Bush folk sacrificed intelligence on Al Q, drawn from Syrian sources, in the name of ideological purity. And, by the way, they ignored a step down in commitment to the various ME terrorist groups within their state borders, after 9-11.
