My only bone to pick is that productivity improvement is frequently over-estimated and I also question in many cases the implementation costing done.

For sure, they took back as much as they gave for a long time and a zillion IT guys are out of work because companies came to the same conclusion you did. Needless to say, it would be hard to see something like a Walmart gaining the advantage and growing at the rate they did without the tremendous amount of software and computing power that now everyone else is forced to implement because of them. What made them rich is now a base level requirement. Some other new company will do something similar in some other industry and one day, a whole bunch of companies in some other area will wake up to the realization that like it or not they have to go there whether they want to spend the money or not. Trying to predict where it will happen again is almost impossible, but predicting that it will happen is almost a given.
