I just hope that Tibet's beautiful landscape and terrain will be preserved as China's national treasure. It has received much better treatment than what the native Americans (North and South) by the Europeans conquistadors and Brits in the 1500's, 1600's, 1700's, 1800's, and early 1900's. Slaughters of various tribes took place. In some cases, old native tribal names continue to exist but no such indigenous person can be found, since they were eliminated (massacred) many recent years ago.

Imagine what the land would look like by now, if Tibet had been separate and independent. The hills would be scarred with mansions and villas of the rich westerners, plus a US strategic military base there too?

>>Some Chinese friends of mine in Toronto think that relatively Tibetans were treated better than people elsewhere in China.<<

I agree. At least they are treated better than people in other rural areas of China. And they are NOT subjected to the single child policy (up to a couple of years ago, they could have as many children as they wanted. I am not sure whether now it has changed).

And those Tibetan independent activists can whine all they want. The fact is the majority of Tibetans are living a much better life than they did under Dalai. Only an idiot would deny this.
