DR,

I think you put way too much faith in our little despot imposing his political "vision" on the various parts of the world. The empires of the past have all failed, I don't think your American Empire will fare any better.

Plus, it's mighty expensive. One clear reason we can't fix social security is that we are spending vast sums, driving up the deficit, to support colonialism.

It was only a couple of years ago that Greenspan was testifying before congress about the difficulties the government would have dealing with the massive surplus, how to invest it without favoring one industry over another. Talking about what is going to happen when the government stopped issuing bonds (debt). Those were heady days, when SS was receding as a problem.

Not anymore. Bush will throw money (and American lives) at anything, it seems to have no meaning to him. And if anyone complains, he plays the homeland security card and images of the of the destruction of the WTC flash through peoples minds.

Your Pollyanna view of the results of these adventures must be reassuring. The rest of the world doesn't share your optimism. What if they are right, you are wrong? Where does that leave us?

John
