Thanks for your useful information about Western companies outsourcing knowledge work to China. Previously I had just assumed that Indians had a permanent and decisive advantage since English is a native language for Indian intellectuals and it isn't for Chinese. Thinking harder about it now, I realize that this applies mostly to programmers, not to back office clerical tasks, where a certain subset of English will do. Anyway because of your post I am directing my investments away from India toward the more rapidly growing economy.
