do you ever weigh where the vix is when deciding on whether to buy or sell options?

My thinking is that longer term long puts are going to be the play when the timing is right. (I may wait for the capture of Saddam). The idea being that selling calls isn't going to garner too much premium and if you are buying longer term puts, you are paying less premium.

So 396 was all we got on the SOX before it reversed down, and the initial profit target of that Gartley has been reached already this morning.
