After living through the exact same gloom and doom scenario in the early 90s wrt the japanese (I work in manufacturing software), I have a lot more faith in the American worker than most. Still, I think some tax relief needs to hit the workforce in order for companies to hire here. For example, the name says it all- payroll taxes. These have got to go or be redistributed to income or something. Because companies pay more for payroll taxes here than the entire salary of an offshored worker. Offshoring at its core is a good thing for US companies but we need to level the playing field at least.
