Honesty is the best policy. Best for whom? And when? If that is so intiutively obvious, why do so many people lie on the witness stand? They must think it's the best policy, at least for them and at that time in their lives, to lie. And why, if honesty really is the best policy, is fudging on one's tax returns such a universal historical practice, going back virtually to the first time taxes were ever imposed by a government and continuing to the present day?
