Panel: Blair's rise "has all the earmarks of a social promotion"
New York Times
The Siegal Committee's report (note: pdf file) acknowledges problems in the management of the New York Times newsroom, and calls for "a permanent climate of discussion and collaboration'' and the need "to make us conspicuously accountable to readers and the public." A chapter written by three outside journalists criticizes the newsroom's culture and management, and says that "diversifying the staff was only one of a collection of factors'' that propelled Jayson Blair "upward toward journalistic disaster.'' Blair's rise at the paper "has all the earmarks of a social promotion,'' they write.
