MSI,

<<<One of Strauss’ books was Thoughts on Machiavelli. This book was not a condemnation of Machiavelli’s philosophy.>>>

"The Prince" is an interesting piece of literature. It was written while Nicolo was in prison, and one can always hope the Bush Cartel follows in his foot steps. Machiavelli was hardly a neo con, and I never got the impression he was an evil man, but he did have a good grasp of some fairly dark truths. Bush doesn't have a grasp of truth, dark or light.

Somewhere recently I came across a lengthy article describing how Wolfowitz, in claiming to follow Strauss (and Plato, before him), takes the view that the post-Enlightnment insistence on evidence or proof 'in the Western sense' for any given proposition before it be believed is absurd. Apparently, for them (or Wolfowits as he interprets them) sheer belief is enough; both logic and a factual basis for the conclusion reached are unnecessary. I know this sounds weird (except, of course, it fits the Bush-Rumsfeld Iraq chronology to a T), but it was a scholarly and rather eye-opening piece, quite critical of Wolfowitz but less so of Strauss, whom the author claimed has been somewhat misrepresented by Wolfie. I've since misplaced the reference, however. Anyone see such an article or have the link?
