It's made a turn in that direction.

That's about as meaningful as saying Hillary's plan for universal health care is a "turn in the direction of communism." Technically true, but fundamentally alarmist.

You're playing word games with JF's post instead of addressing the issue.

In a very short period of time, this country has begun to slip in many small ways that could well coalasce over time into a major downturn. Bush has pandered to some of the most base elements of our society.........the religious right, the militant aggressives, the not for prime time racists etc. Whenever a society does that, its downfall usually is not far behind.

We are in a very scary time where we have a president quoting from the scriptures to explain his position on policy. A president who says preemption is the American way and gets away with it. A president who actively fights with the Supreme Court on issues. A president who is capable of intentionally misleading his people to get what he wants. In a very short time, this president has divided the country in ways that may become irreparable. I would not take what JF's says on this issue lightly.

Ten,

re: That's about as meaningful as saying Hillary's plan for universal health care is a "turn in the direction of communism." Technically true, but fundamentally alarmist.

Huh? You really had to stretch to pull out that analogy, and to throw in a Democrat for flavor.

You may think the war was a trivial affair from a policy standpoint, I disgree. Bush has made it clear in a dozen speeches that he will go after (his definition of) terrorism whenever and wherever, without provocation.

The other thing worth mentioning is that Iraq was the most secular state in the Mideast, and for that could be viewed as a stabalizing influence in the region. Do you think that the government in Iraq, in five years, will be secular? Or do you think they will go the way of Iran?
