You get no argument from me.

I have owned one of those "transmission challenged" Chrysler cars. Never again.

As for Ford, how old a design is the Taurass? I recall renting those in the days when I was a G-man, which dates to about 1984. Ford reliability is terrible.

GM has been known for some of the most lame designs on the planet. Ever look at a "Lumina"? The "Aztek" looks like a lunar exploration vehicle, not a car/truck/suv.

In the interest of disclosure, I should note that the Smithee family now owns a used Chevy Suburban Land Yacht. Seats 9 and tows 2 1/2 tons. Hell, it's better than getting a Monster Truck, isn't it?

nice analysis ... Ford does make the "truck" though ,

I sometimes drive an F150 with the 5.4ltre V-8...kind of fun to drive for a pick-up, especially if altered a bit <g>

toyota is pretty much the undisputed gold standard with Lexus still , this is a nice one to drive
lexus.com

it's very smooooth ..
(and reasonably fast too.)

Hey Gloop,

I know what you mean about Chrysler trannies. We went thru 3 new Dodge trucks before getting one that had a decent transmission. It seems the key is to buy one that has a shift rather than an automatic. They just have lousy, lousy automatic transmissions.

The first two we bought were the Dakota's. The last one (and we've really had great performance from it) is a 4wd full size Ram (deisel). Great mileage and comfortable ride. I also have a Sebring and the transmission is acting weird in it too.

Another annoyance (I've been a dodge/chrysler buyer for a long time) is a muffler noise. It's a design flaw that has been on every chrysler/dodge/mittsubishi car that I've ever owned. When the vehicle is cold and you start it up, it sounds like there is a gremlin pounding on the carriage under the passenger side. I was really dismayed when I bought the Sebring new and found that it did the same thing. At least when the vehicle is new, the noise goes away once the car is warmed up.

I'm not sure why mittsubishi shares the problem but my first experience with the noise was a dodge challenger which had a mittsubishi engine.
