Speaking of California schools, an amazing thing has happened:

A public high school was actually closed by the parents and community for poor performance and a charter school approved to run it. If it gets past the inevitable lawsuits the teachers and administrators will all be fired and rehired on merit.

Of course, the entrenched staff are fighting and got a preliminary court injunction. But the community of parents and students are telling the school board to appeal that decision and get the charter school underway by September.

If this works maybe the rest of the country should have such armed takeovers (well, armed with angry parents' complaints anyway) of their schools, throw out the administrators, and rehire only qualified teachers.

Apparently that's the only way to cut down the size of gov't
