It is a cop out to support laws that were passed because of prejudice, simply because they are there. We must change what is unequal and wrong in this country, and not allow it to stand merely because it has age. If we did that, then every iniquity that has some patina of age would be allowed to stay the law. I think we should, and must, make much of them. You cannot cure abuses in the present, unless you also dig up their roots in the past.

If a law is hostile and prejudicial, and you support that law, and work against changing it, you are supporting the hostility and prejudice that made that law. That you wrap yourself in history does not absolve you. (Using "you" generically, not as you, you)
