All in all - it makes no sense to think that the US or an ally had even the remotest active part in 9/11. For the reasons that you state, i.e., it is too hard to hide evidence (unlike 1963 and JFK conspiracy). For these theories to be true, the number of people who would have to be silent is enormous.

Unfortunately for the extremists here, Osama did it and his movement has been and will be destroyed because of it. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the bad PR of our government may enable them to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. In other words, government is by nature incompetent. Our intelligence community personifies this. However, that does not rise to an active conspiracy. In particular, the theories expressed on this board about explosives, little nukes, remote controlled jet liners are just so absurd that they defy rationale discourse.
