Mike, good article, the concept of the UN offers liberals their ultimate solution to their dreaming, wishing, intellectualizing.

The only real solution to the problems of the Middle East is JOBS, jobs and a sharing of National accomplishment within the Worldwide Arab community.

This can only be accomplished when the long term ruling Monarchys convert to a Democratic style of Government and begin introducing Western style Capitalism into their daily life.

Jordan has started to do this and will become a leader and role model for other ME countries......but it will still take a 100 years for all to be converted....

can you see the Saudi Princes giving up their wealth to the Camel drivers.........

One thing is for certain, at least under our present administration, and that is that "Exported State Terrorism" will not gain them introduction into the Global World Economy.

It is the same throughout the World, with all Nations on the Planet....The answer is in the words.......

Accomplishment

Jobs

Self Respect

regards and have a good one today.

A number of this fellow's premises are false ... to pick one, his bogus binary absolutist choice between A) handing control of world affairs over to the UN as it is currently comprised, and B) everything getting decided for everyone on the planet by a few fantastically powerful men in the back rooms of Washington

Such a typical crock, he sure looks like a neoconartist to me, judging from this piece .... if not, he's definitely been sucked in by their false dichotomies ..... in no way is this sufficient response to my argument, because as you may or may not have noticed, when i mean 'functioning parliament of democracies' i do not type 'the UN', i type 'functioning parliament of democracies' ..... something that can be achieved, and has been achieved in the past, on an ad hoc basis with a genuine coalition, such as the allies in wwii, and is most emphatically not achieved in unilateral invasions by the US, with or without Tony Blair faithfully tagging along

At the same time, this fellow seems to assume that 'the UN' is eager to lend legitimacy to the invasion of one nation by another, by coming in now that it is fait accompli, and helping out ..... i most certainly do not want my country to do such a thing, until there is an abject unqualified apology out of the neocons for their behaviour in the matter ...... there's other false assumptions here, but i'm short of time today

'Image matters. America must demonstrate its strength of resolve and depth of resources.'

Sums up his whole trip right there, doesn't it ... 'oderint dum metuant' .... and ya know what, it's going to work fine, you will be feared, and you will be hated, this arrogance will see the sensible of your nation lumped in with its dictators, in the eyes of much of the world, and you will be loathed more intensely and more widely than you imagine
