You could name the boat "Jenny" and go shrimpin :)

Seriously though, sounds like a nice life on the water, the block parties would be awsome.

....Anyone have any experience with "lot = float"?....
Not I personally but a fellow I worked with for years built a two story house boat. He was out of town and the caretaker for the marina needed to move it do some work on the dock. So this caretaker moved it around to another berth. The tide went out and the house boat came down on top of an old pier and sank. End of house boating.

Chelan in Chelan County Washington is a beautiful and fairly inexpensive area. The only thing you'd have to supply is the boat.

Another area that is very affordable as well as beautiful is Wenatchee Washington. Here is a small sample.

Although, if you are looking at Portland, I assume you want to be in a big city?

A business partner owned a 2 story houseboat in Sausalito, Calif, we used it for work & parties, and he lived there. It was great. That was years ago, I'd probly consider less expensive areas.
