Oil plays a role in our foreign policy in the middle east -- to think otherwise is akin to saying that Israel does not play a role in our foreign policy in the middle east. Indeed, oil and Israel are the driving forces. Terrorism is a byproduct of Israel and oil. The neocon agenda believes that Israel and oil supplies can be secured with invasions, political decapitation and armies of occupation. As this unfolds, the terrorists now have everything they need to recruit a much larger pool of potential terrorists. We proved to their new recruits that we are foreign devils -- congratulations. Good luck with the "pieces of your puzzle". But don't insult my intelligence by denying that oil plays a role.
