If you think this is good policy for us to pin our troops down in an endless guerilla war of our own making, then I think you have not thought this through.

The answer to that, as to every policy question, is 'a good idea compared to what?' Iraq was not stable and we were in an untenable position there before.

And your premise that we are in a guerilla war "with Iraq" is clearly false. Over 90% of the country is glad to have us there, as long as it's not permanent. Only those Sunnis who were beneficiaries of the former regime are guerilla recruiting material, plus whatever crazy jihadis they import. That limits the guerilla war question pretty much to the Sunni triangle. Hasn't been much trouble in Mosul or Kirkuk or Basra.
